  • -_- Again? Me? Really...

    • From: Valkyrie
    • Description:

Once again, I have to be the mature one. I hate being me, I care too much, I've always cared too much for other people. But don't you think people are being unfair? It's turning into a mob scene and I don't mean the song. People are pointing their fingers at a select of people and blaming them for all their problems. This has happened before. The witch hunts in Europe and North American in the 1400s to 1700s, the Holocaust where the Germans blamed the Jews for all their problems and now it's going to start. Some of us are trying to prevent it. The only way for this to end is for someone to stand up and say stop. So yes, I'm standing on a milk crate...I really don't want to, but I know this is wrong, so I'm going to. I gave this same speech to my republican friend and he hugged me and said. "I understand hippie, I understand. Now sit your butt down you're blocking the TV" Aren't friends great, especially when they're your polar opposite? FYI I call him GOP Boy.

So, you think all muslims are killers? Really? Hmm, funny. During the crusades, the Christians fought the muslims for their "holy land" and you don't think they spared everyone? I kinda doubt it. It's not the right thing or the wrong...it was just a tragic thing because both sides had their reasons. Today, both sides still have their reasons. They still see this as a holy war, we're trying to kill them off. We know that's not true, they don't know that and if you keep talking like that. Someone not so nice to going overhear and it will get out to the wrong people. You'll be partially responsble for more needless bloodshed. And you can't say all Muslims are bad. You haven't met them all. I've only met five in my life. Three girls and two guys. The girls for the most part never said much, they only spoke if you spoke to them directly, so when people made fun of them, they would shy away, if they made of them in front of me, they got hit, hard. I didn't protect the girls, I taught the bullies a lesson in tolerance.

The two guys, oh they were funny, short, but funny. Amir and Abid. I met Amir in middle school. He was a talented artist, but people knew he was born in Iraq, moved to the US when he was four. Never did anything wrong, he could write in Arabic. His US history sucked, so I helped him. He sat right behind me. Never complained, he knew I was from DC, but never asked why my family decided to move, it was obvious, it was October 2001, a lot of people moved away from the area never to return. One day, people started to call him Osama. I couldn't do anything, I was new, and he asked not to. I don't why he didn't want me to. I don't know if he just didn't want a girl to help or he was protecting him. I never chance to ask. Two days later, he was beaten serverely by another student. Math textbook, heavy. Eight stitches, a black eye and crack rib. His family moved and I haven't seen him since. Just because he was from Iraq and he was muslim. Abid was my boss at my first job, also short, we called Canada, because his parents were from Pakistan, but he was born in Canada. He was also very nice, we never bothered him, especially during the holidays, his holidays. Ramadon was interesting, he would crane his neck out during sunset. One day he asked why. He said during Ramadon, they fasted until sundown. Stupid co-worker walks by and says "You really should convert." If looks could kill...oh if looks could kill. I quickly stepped in and said "He didn't mean it, he's being himself." Abid ignored him and went back to looking at the sun. Than he would order pizza. Olives...he ordered plain olive pizza. Gross...but he never asked us to participate. He'd watched us eat at noon and encourage us to eat what we could before the customers rushed in. Another nice guy, he moved back to Canada when the theater closed down.

Do you get what I'm saying? Saying every muslim is bad. Saying that they should just hire Christian and Jewish Arabs is no different from me saying that every white protestant is bad. White protestants are more than likely KKK members. So we should do away with them and keep only the White Christians, Jewish and basically everything, but white protestants. Does that seem fair? Does that seem...like an un biased idea? I'm just saying. Have you ever taken the time to think things through completely before you speak? What next? Are we going to start alienating those Hindu women who wear saris? I'm just saying, don't down a path where the bridge will burn behind you.

  • Dickies 500 Info

    • From: chipschatter
    • Description:

Getting to and from the TMS is obvoiusly an adventure....especially NB I-35W from Fort Worth and WB 114  from Grapevine, Southlake, and Trophy Club.  Leaving the races each evening is also quite a challenge and I thought you might find this info helpful from traffic control at the TMS:

At the conclusion of the NASCAR races each evening, the Fort Worth Police Department will contra-flow the traffic pattern so we wanted to provide you with some exit plans. I can’t guarantee the patterns won’t change (sometimes they will alter due to an accident), but hopefully the info below will get you out smoothly each evening.

If you head directly out of the South Tunnel onto SR 114, there will be three lanes to choose from and the contra-flow will force you to go that route so please pick your lane accordingly. If you take the right (outside) lane, you will be placed on I-35W Southbound (toward Alliance Airport and Fort Worth). If you choose the middle lane, you have the option to go I-35W Southbound or 114 East (toward Southlake, Grapevine, DFW Airport). If you choose the left (inside lane), you will be placed on 114 East. If you don’t feel like choosing lanes and need to head onto 114 East, you can take Labonte Lane (left of the tunnel, first entrance to speedway from 114) and the contra-flow will only place you on 114 East. To access Labonte, go out the North Tunnel, take a right on the Lone Star Circle ring road, past the backstretch and dirt track and Lone Star Tower to 114.

For those wanting to head north on I-35W, exit North Tunnel and take a right on the Lone Star Circle ring road. Turn left on Mark Martin Lane, which is across from Gate 11 on the backstretch and is the road that goes between the TMS dirt track (on your right) and Lil’ Texas (on your left). Take it straight to the I-35 service road (marquee on the left), turn right on service road and then you will be directed to the Texas Turnaround (at I-35/114 intersection) to send you north. Another route (which can be slower due to race traffic) is the North Tunnel to the Victory Circle outer ring road and that merges with Dale Earnhardt Way, which will bring you directly to I-35W Northbound OR Southbound.

The North Tunnel is the best route in and out of the infield since the majority of traffic (including team haulers, RVs, etc.) utilizes the South Tunnel. The hours of the North Tunnel are 7 a.m.-10 p.m. Thursday; 7 a.m.-11 p.m. Friday; 7 a.m.-7 p.m. Saturday; and 7 a.m.-8 p.m. Sunday.

If you have a ticket, I hope you have fun and stay safe.

  • Email Lies

    • From: RichardRay
    • Description:

Bogus email campaigns have bugged me for a long time.  This last presidential election produced a bumper crop and Barack Obama continues to be a constant target of internet lies - as was George W. Bush before him.

Now even a couple of fairly innocuous amendments to the Texas constitution have become targets for untrue email campaigns.  Prop 2 and Prop 3, the emails claim, would create a new state real estate tax.  I've been forwarded several of these by well meaning folks who thought that seemed like a bad idea.  It would be - if it were true.  But, it's not.  In fact, Texas' constitution forbids the legislature from creating a state real estate tax.  No one seems to know who is behind the bogus campaign.  Not sure who would benefit from the misinformation.

snopes.gifI've long referred friends to a website that tracks this sort of thing and sorts out fact from fiction.  www.snopes.com

If you get an email that sounds outrageous, too outrageous to be true - it probably is.

If you have friends who still want to tell you that Barack Obama was born in Kenya - refer them to Snopes for the truth.

If a George W. Bush hater insists that he "refused to sell his home to Blacks" or that Canada has arrested him for war crimes -- send them a link.

It's actually kind of fun to surf the site and discover the truth to all the "urban myths" circulating in and out of our inboxes -- stuff that in some cases has been floating around in one bogus form or another for decades.

As Will Rogers once said "It's not what we don't know that hurts - it's what we know for sure -- that just ain't true."

  • Halloween drive thru

    • From: babysister
    • Description:

I was shocked, when Sayurday night, we went to my son's house to walk with my grandauhter as she trick or treated. She dressed as a cheerleader from High School musical.

As qw walked out to the front door, a car pulled up, and a bunch, of kids jumped out, running to the doors, with lights on.. After candy, was tossed into their buckets, and bags, they scurried back to the car, and moved down the street to the next houses, with lights on.

There were more and more, cars, mving along slowly, down each street, with congestions, at the intersections.

What happened to kids walking from house to house in the neighborhoods? I guess the kids go from neighborhood to neighborhood now, to scarf up all the goodies they can. This also creeps up into kids that are way to old to be out doing the dress up door to door. little kid fun.

Next, year, I am going to suggest the church, do a fun carnival, or go to a haunted house.

Halloween, is not as fun as it used to be.

  • Tonight at the Country Club

    • From: junecleaver62
    • Description:

Tonight I joined my mother for dinner at her country club. Just for the record, I grew up in that club, but am not a member now because of the $$$ issue. While sitting in the grill, I couldn't help but notice how detached from their children some of the parents were. These are clearly very well-to-do parents because they can afford a full membership in this club. At one table sat a father with his 2 sons, who looked to be around 10-12 years old. These boys were so well behaved & I imagine were a delight to be around. The father was so absorbed in the television, he paid absolutely no attention to his sons, who were eating their dinners. Then there was a mother with her son, who looked to be around 11 years old. She kept talking to the other adults at the table about all her meetings & appointments (I'm so important thing) & paid no attention to her son, except when she was criticizing what he was doing in school. When I told my mother that I dressed head to toe in KISS last night for Halloween, the boy looked at me & gave me a smile. This young man was clearly very lonely. And, finally, a mother came in with her daughter, who looked around 14 or 15 years old. The mother's cell phone seemed to be embedded in her hand & only surgery could have removed it. The mother talked incessantly on her cell phone while she ate & paid no attention whatsoever to the lovely daughter she had with her. The daughter (hooray for this girl) said to her mother, "Are you going to put that thing down?", meaning the phone. I could tell the mother either didn't hear the girl or had no clue what she was talking about & continued yammering away on her cell phone (and eating).

2 feelings came over me as I observed these scenes; pity for the children & disgust for the parents. I felt sorry for the children because they seemed like wonderful kids & would be great to talk with & spend time with. I felt disgust at the parents because, here they were, well-off & still were clueless to what is truly important. I understand parents can't always be interacting with their kids & sometimes you need a break. But to me, if I were lucky & wealthy enough to afford a country club membership & to be able to eat out there, and if I were to bring my kids with me, then I think I would use that time to talk with them & catch up on their goings-on. Sometimes I think that certain terrible things might be avoided if parents would just take the time to listen to their children & interact with them. The conversations don't always have to be deep & serious either. They can just be normal small talk. I can't afford to eat out as much as I used to. However, we do find things to do together that don't cost too much, if anything (such as our Dallas Zoo membership). I'm not the best mom in the world & wish I could be better. But when I'm spending time with my girls, I don't do what these parents did. Even last night when I took my youngest & 2 of her friends trick or treating, we had good, mindless fun digging through the loot they got.

One thing these parents did teach me tonight, though, was to be more mindful of how I act when I'm with my daughters & try to be the best mom I can be.

    • From: mel
    • Description:

okay this is only my second post. what can I say, I am more of a reader than a writer. However one post today made me think, then it encouraged me to write a post myself. The post in question was a thought for the day and it mentioned failure and how it burns and stings, or something like that. Let me be the first to tell you that I myself am a failure too. In a way we all are, everyone everywhere has failed at one time or another.

There have been many instances in my life where I was unsucessful. I have tried many things and worn several hats in my day, sometimes I fell flat on my face. sometimes I was made fun of for trying and not quite making it. In my eyes failure can be looked at simply as failure, or it can be a learning experience. You try on different hats so to speak in order to find out what fits and what doesn't. Just because a particular hat wasn't your style, you are not a failure by any means. In a way, you have made yourself wiser by finding one of your weaknesses. In turn this is one of the only ways to find your strengths.

Never be afraid to fail my friends for that is what stings and burns, more than the failure itself. For if you have made a valiant effort and done the very best that you can do. You have not failed, you have learned.

Regret stings and burns too. In the end nothing stings or burns worse than the regret of knowing that you didn't even try, because you were afraid of failing. So in the end I say go for it my friends, whatever you've been holding out on give it a shot. And encourage others to do the same.

  • Cheap Plates!!

    • From: chipschatter
    • Description:

At lest that's the way it's being billed.  Just got the presser today.  Here's an exerpt:

Increase the fun of your car at a decreased price. Texas’ popular line of colorful custom license plates is back on the market, at prices adjusted for the current economy.  Sales begin November 19 at www.myplates.com.

Today, the Texas Department of Transportation Commission approved pricing for the re-launch of the My Plates program. My Plates are like nothing you’ve seen on Texas roads.  There are colors and designs to reflect every personality.  From hot pink and burnt orange to western and vintage themes, the plates range from $55 to $195 for a one-year plate.  If you purchase a five- or ten-year plate, the per-year price goes down.

Every one of the original My Plate categories will cost less under the new pricing, dropping from $10 to $200 from last year.  There are even a few new designs that will be offered for the first time November 19. The State of Texas receives revenues from the sale of every plate with a guaranteed minimum return of $25 million dollars over five years.

      Create your plate at
www.myplates.com.  Just choose the plate color and design you like and check the combination.  As of November 19, you can purchase the plate online then pick it up at your county tax office a few weeks later.  You can also call My Plates at 1-888-7MY-PLAT(ES), Monday to Friday 8a-6p.

      So are you a buyer?

WHEW What a read!  Download it here  ... I did ctrl+f 'abortion' (that's 'search' btw) and came up with some fun things:

SEC. 804. LIMITATION ON USE OF FUNDS APPROPRIATED

      TO INDIAN HEALTH SERVICE.

‘‘Any limitation on the use of funds contained in an Act providing appropriations for the Department for a period with respect to the performance of abortions shall apply for that period with respect to the performance of abortions using funds contained in an Act providing appropriations for the Service.

      huh?...

      (3) C

OVERAGE UNDER PUBLIC HEALTH INSURANCE OPTION.—The public health insurance option shall provide coverage for services described in paragraph (4)(B). Nothing in this Act shall be construed as preventing the public health insurance option from providing for or prohibiting coverage of services described in paragraph (4)(A).

      (4) ABORTION SERVICES.—

      (A) ABORTIONS FOR WHICH PUBLIC FUNDING IS PROHIBITED.—The services described in 11 this subparagraph are abortions for which the expenditure of Federal funds appropriated for the Department of Health and Human Services is not permitted, based on the law as in effect as of the date that is 6 months before the beginning of the plan year involved.

      (B) ABORTIONS FOR WHICH PUBLIC FUNDING IS ALLOWED.—The services described in this paragraph are abortions for which the expenditure of Federal funds appropriated for the Department of Health and Human Services is permitted, based on the law as in effect as of the date that is 6 months before the beginning of the plan year involved.

So they're not going to prohibit paying for it... And if the abortion is legal, the public option will pay for it.  Good job Nancy.  You're an idiot.

So they're not going to prohibit paying for it... And if the abortion is legal, the public option will pay for it.  Good job Nancy.  You're an idiot.

Christmas.I LOVE Christmas, it's my favorite time of year.I'm glad that the blond one gets a good head start on Christmas, it takes my mind off of Halloween, I don't like Halloween anymore. Before I got adopted by the bald one I was attacked by some kids on Halloween night, my friend Wally got held down and spray painted by the kids. After that night, no more Halloween for me.

Okay, back to Christmas this weekend is going to be fun. I really get a kick out of watching the bald one climbing up and down on his ladder he'll be doing it all day too. The blond one really gets on him about dusting everything off....he gets a little riled and has to act like he's happy. You should see him, I tell you it's a real hoot. The fun part for me is seeing how many times I can dart in and out between his legs while he's moving in the umpteen boxes. Then I get to rummage through all of the old packing paper. Bubble wrap, it can be a real blast. I love to hide under a pile of old newspaper waiting for the chance to claw the bald ones feet as he's walking by. He doesn't seem to enjoy this as much as I do. I can't wait to climb the tree too. This year I'm determined to make it to the top before it turns over on me.

Yep, this is going to be one fun weekend. I might even get up early to watch the bald one in action. good times.

Christmas.....yeah, I know it's a tad early...but at my place Christmas starts this weekend...and quite frankly, I'm grumbling a little bit....sure, I love seeing the wife get excited about it...but dang....for me it's an entire Saturday spent crawling around in the attic, and in the garage loft....Hauling down about three dozen carboard boxes, dusting everything off checking the boxes for spiders (wife is deeply afraid of spiders)...THEN after it's all thoroughly checked I get to bring them in one at a time so she can go through them....This is just the first part of unpacking Christmas....these are the little trinket type things...bears, dolls, snowmen, and all that sorta stuff....The next load will be the lights, inside and outdoor lights...the ornaments for the trees...all the garland and other assorted crap...and finally the trees....yes I said "trees"....we umm......well we have THREE trees....those are the big ones....and we umm..heave three small tabletop trees too......and about 28 of those little village buildings that light up and have little people and little scenery pieces....oh yeah and the freakin train...we have a train that snakes through all the villages....

You starting to see my point?......It's going to be a loooong weekend for me....sure it's always kinda fun, seeing all the stuff again....and my wife LOVES Christmas......but I kinda believe that she loves getting ready for Christmas more than Christmas itself....
