  • The handgun used at Fort Hood

I just wish that fox would actually do some research about things before they report... the 5.7 caliber in and of itself, is not an armor piercing caliber. most calibers that are available on the civilian market do have high power armor piercing variants, that ARE NOT available for legal civilian purchase!

Now, you can say that a .50 caliber regular ball round is armor piercing, only because of the brute force involved in that caliber. there are however specially designed armor piercing rounds in that caliber, that, as i said, arent legally available for civilian purchase... i would bet anything that the rounds that the shooter used at fort hood in his FN 5.7cal handgun, weren't actually the armor piercing variants. those are very closely governed..

just google the 5.7 caliber and you will find out that it was originally developed as a close-quarters weapon caliber, that yes, was designed to defeat soft body armor. But the 5.7 caliber ammo sitting on the shelves in any gun store in texas, is not armor piercing! that is entirely due to the design of the bullet used, not solely the size of the bullet...

this explains it much better than i can

    sorry just a rant...
